Curious about our political profiles?
What politicians have profiles within the app?
We currently have political profiles for past presidents, first ladies, and vice presidents, as well as current U.S. senators, representatives, governors, 2020 presidential candidates, and 2016 Presidential candidates. In future versions, the goal is to cover elections for all posts as they are occurring, and you will see “Running for __” politician profile categories alongside the current politicians.
We are starting a pilot for mayoral profiles with the mayor of New York City.
Will you ever feature more local politicians?
Absolutely! As DemCon becomes more localized and our team grows, we hope to get as local as possible.
What political parties do you have in the app?
We will continue to expand our U.S. political party selection in the future, but when you download the app tomorrow you will be able to select Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green, or Constitution party when you log in. We used this Ballotpedia link to make this decision. This will impact the political products in your marketplace.
In the politician’s menu section, there are also full political party profiles for the Democratic-Republican, Whig, and Federalist parties where you will find many of your past presidents, first ladies, and vice presidents represented.
Are you going to add more parties?
We are navigating a tumultuous political landscape that is ripe for change, and here at DemCon we hope to be here to guide you through the process, as smaller parties grow to challenge the two-party system.
Where do you get the content for my profile?
We use government sources and our most reliable media providers to build profiles. We have a small dedicated team that is doing its best to update your profiles, but please be patient with us. It is difficult to catch every change of a donate link or biography edit. No algorithms here, remember?
How did you choose my contact info?
We are launching V1 with only one phone number and address, therefore we chose what we believed to be the most prominent office contact info on your website. For reps, senators, and governors with multiple offices, please let us know if you would like to change your contact info at info@demcon.app.
My profile doesn't look full. Is it unfinished?
We are constantly adding new politician and political party content. We are a small team handling a vast amount of information that we believe should all be vetted and checked, which takes time. If you are a politician who is more prominent in the media or in history you will be more likely to have a larger profile.
What is the "Last updated" date at the end of my biography?
That is the sometimes the last time the DemCon team came around to your official website to see if your profile was updated – we are a small number of people hand-curating ALL of our content, including these profiles, so please be patient!
Conversely, if you still see a date from 2021 or earlier on any US Rep / Senate or Governor bios, this means that the profile has not been updated since that time. If any part of your content is outdated, please reach out to us at info@demcon.app.
Why do some politician profiles (and states/categories) have more content than others?
We are regularly adding new political and political party content as it appears in the media. We are a small team handling a vast amount of information that we believe should all be vetted and checked, which takes time. If you are a politician who is more prominent in the media or in history you will be more likely to have a larger profile.
Some states are less prominent than others, in terms of news. If a state is more prolific, it will have more hand-curated data. If you have a connection to a US state and want to see it filled with more content, reach out at info@demcon.app.
Some of our categories also have more prominent news. For example, Fair Trade is primarily an international category, but we look for USA-based news and videos.
If I already have a profile, can I change it or add things?
Not yet. It is a function we are looking to add in the near future.
What does it mean if a user "understands" me?
If a user clicks the lightbulb on your profile, all news articles and videos that we tag you in will filter into their main feed. That’s a big deal because usually, your content just goes into the underlying thematic categories, the state, and the political profile. We sort our top 25 politicians by the number of understands in the main feed, as well as in the see-all screens for senators, governors, reps, and 2020/2016 presidential candidates. This raises your level of exposure.
Why do you only have one mayor in the app?
We are doing a pilot with the mayor of NYC since that is where our team is located. Let us know if you would be interested in us adding the mayors for major cities in the USA at info@demcon.app! Building profiles is no small task for our small curation team.
